The Swan 115, Moat took the win on the second day of racing at the Ibiza JoySail regatta. The crew were quick to make their mark over the 26.77 nautical mile course, finishing with an elapsed time of 02:30:14, which now sees them tied on points with yesterday’s winners, the YD 120, Bliss.

With a south-westerly wind of around 9 knots, it was Bliss that put together the best start in front of Punta de sa Pedrera, focused on getting away and creating a gap on the hunters. Moat were quick to get up to speed however, and on the approach to the first mark were sailing at around 12-13 knots compared to 9-10 knots on Bliss.

At the first mark off Llentrisca, the fleet were able to get up close to the stunning and mythical Es Vedrá and enjoy one of the many spectacles that this stunning area has to offer. After leaving the uninhabited island to port, the fleet continued to fight for boat speed over the figure of eight course.

Bliss and Shamanna raced side by side up to the third mark and while it was the latter team that got ahead on the upwind beat to the third mark, Bliss was able to claim second place overall at the finish line, with a corrected time of 02:51:59.

Shamanna finished third while Dark Horse closed the race, rejoicing in the opportunity to get more race experience under their belts in stunning waters.

Speaking after the race, Moat’s navigator, Juan Vila said, “Today went well! We were the fastest boat, and our manoeuvres went well. We are enjoying learning the boat, how to sail it and get more confidence with the different sail selections and systems.”

“It was an awesome race with 10-12 knots to start which dropped a little bit as the race went on. It is great to sail here and discover this area as part of the regatta,” he added.

With the final day of racing ahead, it is now Moat’s race to lose as the fleet look forward to a final test over a racecourse that has rarely featured in Superyacht or Maxi racing before.
